Portfolio Review
July was a month where I had a bit of an epiphany. It was the month where I went crypto degenerate, where I withdrew substantial sums from my traditional portfolio to bolster my crypto positions. As such, to maintain some sort of continuity in my portfolio updates, I’ve decided to merge my crypto portfolio value into my updates.
Consequently, my overall portfolio value “grew” month on month to $374,213, “grew” as its largely due to my crypto portfolio merger. The traditional portfolio was down slightly, with most market gains coming from the crypto portfolio.
Portfolio Transactions
I sold many counters this month to raise cash for my crypto portfolio, something I mentioned in my last post on Decentralised Finance (DeFi). I sold counters that I felt was more risky as I hope to construct a stable core traditional portfolio, while taking much more risks in my crypto portfolio.
This meant getting rid / paring down of a lot of overseas REIT positions, including US REITs (Prime, MUST and Keppel Pacific Oak), Capitaland Retail China Trust and Mapletree North Asia Trust. I’ve also got rid of weaker counters like AIMS APAC REIT.
These sales are by no means indictments against the respective counters fundamentally. I believe these counters present some value if you are prepared to wait.
My decision to rotate into crypto is purely based on the opportunities I see in the crypto space. Opportunities that will, in my opinion, will outperform my investments in these traditional securities in the next year.
Although I’ve started including my crypto portfolio in my monthly updates, I’ve decided not to name my positions. This is for several reasons:
- Firstly, as mentioned in my DeFi post, crypto is dangerous AF if you don’t know what you’re doing. There are many scams and risks in the space so I cannot in good conscience lead a total pleb down this path.
- Secondly, its a more selfish one. I want to capture as much alpha as possible while it’s still there. LOL
That said, I do believe in spreading greater awareness of trends in the crypto space, especially to traditional investors. If you wish for me to talk about how to get started, do let me know. For more coin specific discussions, you can find me on email or via Twitter / FB DMs.
As usual, this is not a call to buy or sell securities and its just sharing my own thought process for your information. Please do your own due diligence.
Endowus CPF OA Portfolio

As you may know, I’ve started investing my CPF OA funds with Endowus. I’ve been sharing my portfolio performance for readers’ reference to evaluate product performance for themselves. This month was nothing special, just my regular monthly top up of $1000. My portfolio is up 8.34% for the year, which given the current climate is a decent set of results..
If you want to learn more about Endowus, do check out my review (Cash/SRS portfolio review to be updated). Also, if you’re interested in opening an account, do feel free to sign up through my referral link.
The long goodbye
Lastly, it was a bittersweet month on the personal front. The hospitality industry apocalypse has finally caught up with me. Yup, I’ve been retrenched and will be leaving my employer at the end of August.
I’ve been anticipating something like this happening for months now, so I can’t say I’m surprised. I’ve been planning for my next career move for some time now and this just means a acceleration of my timetable in a not so convenient time. So if you guys have any leads on jobs in internal audit or preferably, entry level business / finance data analysis, I’ll greatly appreciate it if you could share them with me. Traineeships in data analysis are fine too.
The hardest part of this situation for me is saying goodbye to great colleagues that I’ve known for the last 3.5 years. This is even harder as everyone is still WFH. The good thing is that I have 1 month to do so.

Sorry to hear about your job loss. Good luck.
Is it a good idea to be ~50% in crypto at this time?
Hi,
Thanks for your concern.
As for crypto, I think it really depends on your investment thesis about specific coins. I’m comfortable with my heavy position on my coins (its not BTC or ETH btw) due to the research I’ve done and will be doing to keep myself updated.
Crypto is not for most investors and thus it is not advisable for the ignorant to be heavy on crypto.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
KK
